WRITING:
Rucka bring Kane back into the Bat family drama with ease as the City is under attack. The opening shows her reaction when the public is thinking of her as a killer. This becomes a lingering thought as she contacts her father. Their conversation is brief but reflect the guilt Kate carries. It doesn’t take long for the call to be interrupted by Isley’s plant attack. Once here, the issue speeds into some action.
Readers get introduced to the evil TUCO’s running around the streets of Gotham. Their interactions are vile as they choose to muscle their enforcements. The show stealer of this issue is Batman welcoming his cousin home. Their banter is more upbeat at times than usual. It only breaks when the mission is presented. Once here, Batwoman hits the streets hard. This becomes all more risky as Savage’s “Bat Bounty” is in full swing. The problem resolution moves events into more stabile territory. Kane’s understanding of the gravity of matters moves towards a solid cliffhanger close. A welcomed return home indeed.

ART AND LETTERING:
Dani & Hollingsworth return after an issue off. The flight home panels tease more drama under Savage’s rule. A solid two page splash cements the return before the chaos begins. Her frustrations about Greece don’t escape panels. Kane wears her thoughts on her sleeve here. This all becomes rocked as the attack now hits Gotham City. A wild two page spread shows Kane adapting to the chaotic mess. This moves her to suit up and hit the streets.
The introduction of TUCO sets an uneasy feel as they go about their work. Panels reflect the bullying with authority that they present. This remains brief to allow Bruce Wayne to welcome his cousin home. The half panel image of Bats arriving is greeted with Kane’s rare grin as events are being laid out. Readers watch as the mood swings fast into business as the smiles fade fast. It leaves with a solid parting shot before the main event. The Cathedral of St. Dumas sequence gets an added boost from Hollingsworth’s coloring. Using Kate’s costume to blend in amplifies the drama on page. It closes with another excellent full shot, leaving readers on baited breath for more.
FINAL GRADE: 8.8
Kate Kane’s return home is met head-on with the affairs of a city under siege in her ”Bad Seeds” tie-in. Rucka’s writing shows Kane’s return to “normalcy” met with some challenges. Dani & Hollingsworth unearth the emotions in the air as “Bad Seeds” takes hold. Batwoman is always firing on all cylinders.
