STORY OVERVIEW:
The expedition team is continuing their way down the Black Road South. Lilith Lazuli is nonstop bragging about herself, which is making Babs more annoyed by the minute. However, Culpepper seems to be completely smitten with Lilith and is willing to dote over her. As the group gets to a very suspect bridge, a small man in a gimp suit cuts the bridge down, leading to the death of a lot of the crew. The remaining members of the group now have to deal with the terrifying Snowpeckers. After this encounter, the group is down even more people. But Lilith wants to push on even though there is a snowstorm. This causes the death of Lilith leaving only Babs, Izzy, and Culpepper to carry on the expedition and all its challenges.
WRITING:
This issue delivers the adult humor and fun we’ve grown accustomed to in this series. Garth Ennis has the uncanny ability of making every situation funny and entertaining. The adult situations and humor are top notch as always and make for an enjoyable read. The action sequences, although only a couple in this issue, are good and make the reader take notice. The downside is that this issue is a little slower paced than other issues and feels like it’s missing something. Although it’s unfair to expect front to back all out entertainment, the fact that it is noticeably less hurts the issue a little bit. But with that being said, the issue is still enjoyable and fun.
ARTWORK:
The artwork in this issue blends effortlessly with the narrative. Jacen Burrows delivers consistent artistry throughout the series, and his style matches the playful mood, adding to the energetic feel. The violent scenes are portrayed with a clever, tongue-in-cheek touch that suits the lighthearted tone. Additionally, Andy Troy’s choice of colors makes the visuals pop, giving the artwork even greater impact.
