MacKay puts Rider in position for a heroic sendoff. Camille’s story is explained briefly before the full unveil of her new stat quo. This prompts Rider to take a costly chance to save her. His dialogue reflects its not for personal reasons, but more the code of the Nova Corps. Aalbort and Star-Lord’s reasons are very different but all push the rescue forward. This leads into an ultimate chess match with strong applications on the future.

Readers see the valor shine in Rider’s play. The writing shows the calculated risk move into a defining moment for the hero. It results in a satisfying finish to the fight. The aftermath leaves a few questions in the air. Nova’s status with Star-Lord being one. It also offers a new beginning to both him and his crew. Even in the last issue, the thought of the next job doesn’t escape Nova’s sight. A fun ride while it lasted.

López & Iacono open with a full recap of how Camille got in her current situation. Another full shot unlocks her new form. Watching her destroy all in sight leads to a minor panic. An intense full image sees Nova fly into the belly of the beast (literally). His fellow companions jump in as well with less fanfare. Once inside, the art hones in on Rider’s gamble. It’s slow played to hit its mark. The result kickstarts the final showdown in waiting.

Another full panel shows the trap being set. It leads to an uncomfortable stage. The graves of dead Novas can’t be ignored. This pushes more into the action side of events. Rider’s Gamble comes to life with a strong full shot. It compliments the dialogue in defining his heroics. This moves the story into a faster finish. Readers see the epilogue filled with more comedic expressions as Nova ties up loose ends. The final page cements a future uncertain for those traveling with the last Nova left. A fitting parting image to walk off on.

FINAL GRADE: 8

Nova makes one last ride into danger in a bittersweet farewell to fans. MacKay’s writing reminds readers the heavy burdens he carries. The art team lean into the huge moments with the panels for this finale The door is left open for more with the universe being the limit on how far Richard Rider can go.
