WRITING:
This debut issue is highly enjoyable, seamlessly continuing the tone established by the original storyline. Garth Ennis skillfully brings out the entertaining and adventurous scenarios that Babs encounters. The dynamic among the three main heroes makes them genuinely likable. Both the humor and the action are well-timed and effective. The lighthearted adventures ensure that each page is a pleasure to read.
ARTWORK:
The artwork in the first issue matches the artwork we became accustomed to in the first run. Jacen Burrow does an awesome job of keeping the continuity of the art going in this series. The art style matches the fun tone of the story perfectly and brings the fun nature to life. The violence in the book is also done very well and in a more tongue-in-cheek fashion to match the fun nature of the story. Andy Troy’s color choices match the art perfectly and really make the art pop.
Final Thoughts:
Babs: The Black Road South #1 is a super fun and entertaining read. If this series is half as fun as the original run, we are in for one hell of a fun ride. Go order the trade of the first run as you won’t regret it and grab this issue at the LCS then add this to your Pull List as well.
