The Amazing Spider-Man: Spider-Versity #5 (Marvel Comics)
Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 5th issue of The Amazing Spider-Man: Spider-Versity from Marvel Comics!
The Spider-Heroes are undergoing some training to bring them up to snuff! And none other than Norman Osborn is the one leading the training! But now the teacher has become the lesson! Will the Spider’s be able to stop Norman? Or is it too late? Let’s jump into it!

The Story
Norman Osborn has taken it upon himself to train the other members of the Spider Family up to snuff when it comes to handling the villains on NYC incase Peter goes MIA again. It’s an idea that sounds like a horrible idea especially given Norman’s history with Peter, BUT it’s worked thus far. Of course that was all BEFORE Norman came into possession of the Carnage symbiote!
Jordan Morris does a great job with the story in this one and really ups the ante for this issue. The Spider’s aren’t facing some training regiment now, they’re face to face with the Red Goblin! I really like the way Jordan gets the issue started off to a fast start and the pace doesn’t stop until the final pages. It was really satisfying to see all of their training be useful in this issue and was a very satisfying payoff.
It’s going to be interesting to see where this will spin off to in the mainline Amazing Spider-Man series. Peter is dealing with a lot as it is in that series, so it’ll be interesting to see how Joe Kelly will be able to bring these storylines in and weave them into the story.
The Artwork
Pere Perez & Guru-eFX are in charge of the artwork for the issue and they did a spectacular job with it. You see a lot of the familiar look and style from Spider-Man comics that readers seasoned and lapsed will be familiar with, so it makes jumping in a breeze. I really liked the action sequences and how they’re able to use all of the Spider’s effectively and not have it feeling overwhelmed with too much going on. The artwork overall works really well in tandem with the story.
Overall Grade: 8/10
Joe Kelly & Jordan Morris wrap up a fun series that is sure to have a lasting impact on the mainline Spider-Man story in interesting way’s. Together with artwork that is absolutely beautiful, this is an issue you can’t miss out on!
