The Story
Everything has lead to this point in the battle between Spider-Man/Venom/Carnage against Torment. What’s resulted is an absolute wake of devastation & destruction in Torments wake for anyone related to Peter, Mary Jane or Eddie Brock. So does the ending of the story stick the landing? Or is it a puddled mess on the sidewalk? Let’s get into it!
The issue picks up right where the last part of the story left off with Carnage joining with Peter Parker all the while Torment is attacking F.E.A.S.T and Aunt May & Ana May Watson are firmly in the crosshairs. It’s a story packed to the brim with action and future storyline implications that is sure to leave fans speculating where things are going to go next.
It plays out in spectacular fashion in a way that is sure to feel familiar with fans of the franchise. However it’s not the battle that plays out that is sure to have fans talking and speculating. There’s the matter regarding Mary Jane’s actions that is bound to have folks speculating, and for very good reasons. I won’t spoil what it is but it had even me raising my eyebrows in surprise. Also there’s the situation involving Carnage, and again I won’t spoil what goes down. However all I will say is I don’t think we’ll have to wait very long to find out what happens with him. Lastly there’s the matter involving Peter Parker’s cousin we were introduced to a couple of issues back, and has reappeared in this one. I get the feeling we’re going to be seeing a lot more of him in the near future and it’s going to be interesting to see just how things play out with him once his “testing” is done.
The Artwork
The artwork on this issue is absolutely spectacular from start to finish and the entire creative team deserves to take a bow for their work. The action sequences are so visceral and the visuals in each panel are otherworldly and really jump off the page. In particular I really liked the fight sequence between Venom & Torment because the artwork really showed you the gloves were off and made even me go “holy cow”! As far as visuals go, the work you see in this issue is going to be some of the best you see this week!
Overall Grade: 9/10
The Death Spiral story has been one of the best stories Marvel has told in years and the final part of the story is going to leave you with more questions than answers! This is a must read if you’re a fan of Spider-Man!
