ABSOLUTE GREEN LANTERN #20 by Al Ewing, Sid Kotian, Prasad Rao, & Lucas Gattoni (DC COMICS)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Ewing tackles the fallout of Hammond’s death in Absolute Green Arrow #6 to open the new chapter. The flashback scenes with Carol Ferris shows his arrogance while tying into the grand scheme of events. His funeral is met with much smoke and mirrors. Readers watch as Ferris’ actions never let their guard down. Her talk with “Shaw” sees herself opening up about the future. It doesn’t take too long for that to reveal itself. Shaw’s talk with his boss stages the larger role to be mapped out. The moment serves as a solid pivot for Jo’s return to Earth.

Readers watch as it comes with some complications. The encounter with Hammond’s guards lead to nothing but trouble. The writing shows her challenges in bringing a peaceful end to the encounter. One character doesn’t agree and takes matters into their own hand. This begins a vicious retaliation from Jo’s group. It might seem jarring at points but it reflects the aura of Absolute. Ewing puts in some character moments between Katma and John Stewart before staging a solid closing piece. Jo takes center stage as her emotions begin to surface. It leads to a strong decree as she makes a bold proclamation. Minus some stalling sections, a great starting point for what’s next.

This moves into a tough conversation between her and Shaw. It helps disguise his ruse and Ferris begins to open up. A full page look shows who Shaw is really working for before handing the reigns over to Jo.

Readers watcha s the arrival is greeted with an excellent full page image. It sparks up scenes from the more stable ones of Hammond guards partying. Action takes over with some extreme looks mixed in. Katma’s full page attack is prime example of this. Guy’s full page look shows a few new sides to the character until the threat is handled. Panels with Stewart and Katma make a statement behind Gattoni’s lettering. There’s plenty of reaction building inside the soul to the Darkstar. This moves events into the closing stages where Jo makes her moves. Her reactions convey a newfound hope. It locks readers in right to the huge full page finish. A new day begins but not without complications.

FINAL POINT: 8.2
