The Story
Jed MacKay took an interesting turn with the story that I wasn’t expecting. Just when you thought you might’ve had it figured out it takes a turn that keeps you on your toes. It’s still hard to guess where this story is going, which I feel is a strong point of the series. It’s this ongoing mystery that surrounding where things are going that keeps readers coming back.
I like how the story in this issue feels like a little bit of a lull in the action. However there’s still a lot of development going on between the action sequences. The dialogue in the series is incredibly strong and some of the best you’ll see on the shelves this week. The dialogue also leads to some underlying tension that is waiting to explode. Just what form that’s going to take is anyone’s guess.
The end of the issue leaves things in an interesting place and sets up for an interesting future. It feels like things can only build up so much more before they explode. And it’ll be interesting to see just what happens next.
The Artwork
Federico Vincentini & David Curiel are in charge of the artwork for the issue and it is truly some spectacular work done by the pair in this issue. The art in this issue continues to stand out from your standard X-Men issue art, it feels like it’s an elevated version of that. From start to finish every panel is so incredibly drawn with a level of detail and care that really astound me and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.
Overall Grade: 7/10
Jed MacKay continues to impress with this issue with a very compelling story that blends beautifully with the artwork. This event is quickly becoming must read material!
