Lemire exposes how brutal Wally’s destiny has become with this latest installment. Zoom’s relentless beatings continue to take a toll on the young hero. Their dialogue mimics the intensity of each punch thrown. Even when Wally gets some “inspiration” from his dad in a dream sequence, it proves futile as the beating continues. This never gets easier as each page turns. It only gets a small reprieve when attention goes to the other rogue causing havoc.
Readers watch as Cadabra’s magic drives forth madness in the streets. Linda’s confrontation with this villain proves insightful as another character intervenes to upset events. It makes for a quick pivot to go back to Wally. The writing shows him in a new light as more secrets begin to unlock. One well placed distraction proves to turn tides quickly as momentum slows down heading into the closing pages. There’s still a few action moments before the definitive fight finish occurs. From here, the story takes a vastly different direction as a new decree is made to wrap up shop with. A very straight-forward tale.

Robles & Lucas pen with a brutal look at Wally’s current state. The panels show his bruised face and delirious stance as the impact starts sinking inward. This continues as Zoom goes heavier with the attack. Lucas’ coloring jumps out as the battling red vs. yellow works to show Wally’s struggles. This stands out with a brutal half panel showcasing a gruesome injury. As shocking as this moment is, a monstrous two page spread shows the troubles expanding in the city.
Cadabra’s creepy mannerisms take over as he reigns down terror. The close-up of Linda’s eyes speaks volumes as he presses onward. The art shows a fast resolution allowing Wally to expand further in his powers. It builds up into a superb half panel strike that connects on every front. The art spills into an uncomfortable aftermath as there are no victors here. This leads into one last round with vicious strikes unfolding. Readers watch as a new factor is added to the fight via two page spread. Once here, the story moves into its’ closing space with a huge reveal to tease what’s next. Solid work on display here.

Zoom has taken Wally West into uncharted waters with all hope fading fast!. Lemire shows the new rogues in different lights with a steady script. Robles and Lucas deliver on huge action with the art. The life and times of Absolute Wally West are anything but ordinary.
