ABSOLUTE FLASH #13 (DC COMICS)

Wally West must find a way to push forward.

His time as being the Scarlett Speedster has been anything but easy. The latest conflict has delivered him a crushing blow. West’s father sacrificed himself to push THAWNE through a portal to stop his terror. This has destroyed Fort Fox and all those connected to it.

Now West finds himself in a dark place with no easy way out.

ABSOLUTE FLASH #13 by Jeff Lemire, Haining, Adriano Lucas & Tom Napolitano (DC COMICS) kicks off a brand new arc!

Let’s take a closer look at where this story leads.

ABSOLUTE FLASH #13 by Jeff Lemire, Haining, Adriano Lucas & Tom Napolitano (DC COMICS)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Lemire shows West at an ultimate low. Reliving his father’s sacrifice is a main focus on the young man’s brain. Knowing the loss, West has elected to arrive at the Dinby Youth Mission. The writing shows his struggle to adjust without his dad. It carries a very somber tone as Ralph Dinby begins to check in on him, This results in a heavy conversation which grounds the fastest man alive.

The writing unlocks the building frustration of being helpless. Dinby counters with a caring offer of support. This optimism is somewhat matched by another resident of Central City. The interactions with Linda Park prove classic as Wally’s search for a friend brings a more upbeat sense. It also creates a possibility of writing the terrible wrong. Readers watch as the good intentions lead to something unforeseen. This hits a breaking point in the closing pages. A solid landing with a huge upside awaits.

READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW!

Haining steps in for art duties this go around. The Nightmare opening full page takes hold of the audience right from the start. This leads to a two page spread of Wally waking in his new surroundings. Ralph Dibny’s entrance is encompassed by more flashbacks. This helps to connect the deep rooted pain Wally is feeling. The mood carries into their conversation with great success.

Readers watch as Wally’s anger is unleashed on the panels. Even when combatted by Dibny’s kindness, it reigns over scenes. Linda’s time provides a solid pivot point into matters. The pages fill with more traditional looks as the power display becomes a driving factor. A Full page running image cements this factor. This pushes events into a more exciting close. Fort Fox’s new look is a dark and distorted vision of its old self. It spins into a fast finish with an excellent final page. There’s much to be amped up for here.

FINAL POINT: 8.4

The aftermath of Thawne’s attack haunts Wally West as his new stat quo begins. Lemire’s writing unveils the troubles harboring inside the scarlet speedster.. Haining and Lucas mix up the changing looks with strong art. Jump on board now as the action will be coming fast at the comic shops!
