Snyder & Grayson start off events balancing between two times. The throwback to a “happier” time in Gotham and the present dilemma take the reigns for this chapter. Kyle’s monologue is very clear the uneasy tension surrounding her in the now. Having Helena and Victoria back is not welcomed, but needed. There’s no time to process more as the trio is attacked. The writing shows how comfortable in chaos Kyle has become as the threat is neutralized. Where she struggles is allowing anyone to help.
Once events swing back to the past, the tone is much lighter. Readers can see Holly’s misguided optimism as she thinks they have hit the jackpot. Watching this interaction only makes the present time more uncomfortable. Snyder & Grayson throw in a fun moment with “The Cat Cave”. The scene proves more impactful as the explanation of “The Yard” takes the stage. This leads into a predictable direction when the rescue attempt resumes. Take nothing away from the set-up. It sets a great stage for where Kyle needs to advance. What she finds at the end may not be anything she’s ready for.

Bengal and Niro bring out the internal turmoil early in this chapter. The banter between the trio shows the frustration mounting on Kyle’s face. Readers get some fast action to turn tides. A daring half page panel shows Kyle unleashing a dangerous strike. It leads into an easy resting spot for the story of the present. It gives a solid pivoting place to head into the flashbacks. The comradery of the Calicos is on full display. This is interrupted by Holly’s dreams of grandeur. The panels reflect her blindness to the truth before switching gears.
Readers watch as the Cat Cave provides a refocus needed for the trio. Panels have shown the friction building. This sequence shows the walls melting a touch. A strong full page shot shows the Yarn’s origin with a haunting feel. This leads into more back and forth between times. Once it settles in the present, the teams unity shows signs of life via an excellent full page image. This moves events into the final act. Another full page image sets the tone for their latest rescue attempt. Judging by the closing panel, a friendly welcome is completely off the table. Solid art throughout the issue.
FINAL GRADE: 8.5
Selina Kyle has one last chance to save Holly, but the past won’t let her accept help. Snyder and Grayson force Kyle’s choice in accepting help or forging onward alone. Bengal and Niro hit the marks when moving the drama forward. A fascinating look at trust amongst thieves in a world of darkness.
