STORY OVERVIEW:

Terri is trying to get to safety with Mia using the rain as cover for their movements and noises. This plan seems to be working out quite well. Terri is also coordinating with Caleb to save and help other survivors well they have the rain for cover. Caleb is moving Gloria and Brody to the station where it is safer. But he is having trouble maneuvering the wheelchair through the mud. We get a flashback to Lonnie taking the levee down and watching the aliens attack the first causualities of the invasion of the town. Even though he is hurt, he must muster all of his energy to take out the bridge before it’s too late. Unfortunately, the towns posse is waiting for him to stop him. Knowing what they know now, it’s safe to say they wouldn’t stop him now.

WRITING:

This issue continues to ramp up the suspense and drama of the story. Phil Hester does a fantastic job of taking us between the present and the flashbacks to how we got here. It never gets confusing and makes for the perfect plot device to keep the story moving forward. The suspense of wither the survivors will survive, mixed with the anxiety of watching the mistakes that let this all happen, creates the perfect powder keg of emotions. Using the rain as cover is a genius way to exploit the alien’s greatest strength and turn it into a weakness. At the same time, it creates even more suspense as the rain can stop at any time. Hester really excels at making the reader uneasy and feeling like the other shoe can drop at any time.

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this issue is outstanding and captures the spirit of the franchise with real impact. Ryan Kelly brings the ruined small-town setting to life while emphasizing the tension and drama of each scene. The detailed backgrounds and destruction pull readers directly into the world. The aliens are also instantly familiar to fans but still feature distinctive touches that make the designs feel fresh and imaginative.
