WRITING:
This second issue starts to up the stakes and brings some of that suspenseful horror the A Quiet Place franchise is known for. Phil Hester captures the essence of the franchise well building on its mythology. The way to townsfolk split and turn their back on Lonnie even though he is right, brings another element of horror and shows that people can be as equally bad as the monsters they are fighting. Hester shows this dynamic and keeps the reader guessing on what will happen next with some well-placed jump scares. However, the best part of this story is the survival of Terri & Mia in the present. The resourcefulness Terri shows in the face of the horror she is facing proves she is a hero. Hester’s constant barrage of challenges and obstacles builds a real sense of suspense and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat.
ARTWORK:
The illustrations in this book are exceptional, effectively capturing the essence of the original franchise. Ryan Kelly demonstrates considerable skill in vividly portraying a destroyed small-town America, while also conveying the drama that is playing out. The backgrounds and depictions of destruction are rendered in such a manner that readers are immediately immersed in the setting. Additionally, the alien designs are instantly recognizable to fans yet incorporate unique elements that distinguish them and reflect thoughtful creativity.
