*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Much in the same vein as the previous chapter, it doesn’t take long for the action to kick off. The writing makes the Supreme/Xerxes stand-off more personal due to their unique history. It exposes Xerxes’s unstable nature while putting Supreme in a very uncomfortable spot. This moves right into direct combat. The tension explodes as Xerxes launches at his former lover. Readers watch as the lovers quarrel kickstarts a more violent situation at hand.

Vandel’s savage fight with Die-Hard is sure to be a crowd pleaser. There is plenty of blood and pain being served up in these panels. The dialogue is short and to the point when Kid Supreme and Suprema get tangled up in this ordeal. Another impactful piece is Shaft addressing Colonel Bravo. Their family dynamic comes front and center while other pieces form into place. Liefeld gives enough clues to what long game he’s playing with these characters. It leads to a very exciting group to be exposed for their interest in events. Suffice to say, there is a lot of events happening for fans to rally around in this volume.

Liefeld welcomes in “Team Supreme” with a strong two page splash. There are a great deal of pent-up emotions on display when Xerxes and Supreme lock eyes. It lights the match between their personal conflict. The huge panels mirror how much animosity has been building here. Once the fight moves to Die-Hard and Vandel, the conflict gets raised even higher. The two page sideways splash is a gem shining in this issue. It’s a throwback style that doesn’t miss its’ mark.

Readers get much more of the same as the book progresses. It isn’t a bad thing by any means. When Youngblood is involved, you know what to expect. The Sheppard makes a grand entrance with a two page splash. This moves to let the talk between Shaft and Bravo take over. The full page panels work in getting their tense points across. Liefeld throws in another solid two-page splash involving more characters. Only one group can take the last page home. Fans are gifted a very intriguing parting image to ponder until next time. Go big or go home is the only way to describe this art style. Who doesn’t want to be here for that?

FINAL GRADE: 8.8

A personal quarrel turns into a more driven attack with the world in the balance for this chapter. Liefeld sets the stage with his classic style via the art. Balancing out the fights is a very well-staged conflict drawing in some very familiar and powerful names. Youngblood is back and this is the series action fans need to have!
