Let’s take a look at the finale.

Loeb goes all out for the finale , with a very puzzling twist at the end. At its’ core, this has been a fun look back at the popular era of AoA. For those that read the books in the 90’s, it connects right where it left off. Using Sinister’s manipulations of Nate Grey as the catalyst connects on a few levels. Their story becomes a major focal point in this finale. Their resolution is fitting for where it needed to be. Some other X-Men get their crowning moments as well.
One of which is Creed. This version of Sabretooth steals scenes due to his caring nature for both Blink and Wild Child. The interactions with present day Wolverine are priceless but never overlook how he is a true hero in others eyes. The book is non-stop action, which hits its’ marks and then some. Where fans will raise some eyebrows is with one hero in particular. Gambit’s story and the following double vision make for a excellent sub-plot. Once the ending arrives, it will have readers talking, but there’s many questions of “How” and “why” involved. That’s for another time, but for this issue, it’s farewell to the AoA for now. Definitely not forever.

Di Meo has been an absolute force with the art in this series. The finale is no exception. Capturing the rage in Nate Grey’s face with Sinister’s true reveals lights a larger fire. The two page spread of “Forge” is impressive as this launches the team into combat. Pacing is fast and met head-on with electric art. Anyone lloking for high-energy action definitely came to the right place.
Where the art also succeeds is in the expressions of certain members. Creed’s range of reactions reflects much of the group. His fierce attacks drive the rally against the army of villains. This can get flipped at any moment once Blink or Wild Child come into panel. It breaks from the pair of Gambit’s deja vu panels, which are also key in the overall scheme of events. A fantastic two page spread shows Nate Grey’s final stand with Sinister before ushering in the close. Once here, panels start completing loose ends with great close-ups of the characters. One in particular goes off script leading into the close. A final two page splash begins to close one door on a bittersweet note. It becomes eclipsed by the final page. Seeing the closing panels and how one characters’ grin speaks volumes will have fans talking. Exceptional art displayed here for the entire run.
FINAL GRADE: 8.8
The XoA have their last stand on a strong note with a very questionable finish for one character sealing the deal. Loeb swings for the fences to create an epic finale. Di Meo’s art is phenomenal in delivering huge moments. The ending is prepared to shock the X-Men fan base to the core. Get Ready!
