STORY OVERVIEW:

Buddy Hansen paid some men to take out Digger during a death match, unfortunately for them they underestimated how tough the old brute is. After dispatching the would-be assailants, the shady promoter says Hijo’s debts are paid in full. Now the team can strictly focus on preparation for the heist. They still need someone who can crack the safe, so Sterling enlists another former wrestler Bearwolf. This does not make Digger very happy but gets over it for the sake of revenge on Buddy Hansen. Now the hardcore training begins and there is no turning back. Sterling struggles with not seeing his kid for Thanksgiving but is thankful that he gets to spend it with his friends. However, is everyone on the team trustworthy not to be seduced by Buddy Hansen?

WRITING:

This issue dives deeper into the planning of the heist, well also showing us more of the personal lives of our group. Kyle Starks brings this zany world of wrestlers turned robbers to life. Showing us their over-the-top personas to then peel them back and show us what makes them tick. This endears the reader to the characters and gives them a sense of familiarity. Starks also nails the cartoon nature of the wrestling business, well also showing there is a more serious side as well. As a wrestling fan this comes across as a love letter to the wrestling business and adds that much more to the story.

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this issue continues to be fun and a perfect fit for the story. Kyle Starks cartoonish style of art matches the energy and vibe of the story perfectly. Starks character designs allow the reader to know exactly who the characters are, well also making them familiar for a wrestling audience. The inspiration to real life wrestlers is not lost on any wrestling fan. Starks really made the death match scene stand out and personally made me pop with the appearance of the weed whacker. This series’ fun story is completely equaled by its insanely fun art.

Final Thoughts:

Wrestle Heist #3 continues the trend of this series being fun and entertaining. The story has really developed and at times takes on a more serious tone. But it still stays rooted in fun, making it an easy and super entertaining read. As fun as the story is, the artwork matches it and then some. This is a body slam of a pickup for any wrestling fan at the shops this week. But even if you aren’t a wrestling fan, you will still enjoy this joy ride of a book.

FINAL GRADE: 9.8/10
