*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Kirkman allows Rom to take over the issue and establish himself without revealing all his cards. The conversation comes off awkward at first (as one should expect). Each character is in the feeling out process. This allows Rom to steal some panels with this “pet” carpet. Once a challenge makes their presence, the writing shows how Rom’s style is vastly different from most.

The conflict resolution carries a more peaceful tone than expected. Readers watch this work in Rom’s favor winning over others. Some are not fully sold on his presence. Pythona senses a threat looming. The writing also plants a subtle side plot into the planet’s mix. This ushers in a striking finish. Rom makes a statement that is quiet jarring. What it truly means will be a fin mystery to watch.

READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW!

Hughes and Delpeche open with the meeting of all parties. This leads into an excellent full page image of Rom. His interactions come off clumsy but endear to the audience. Pythona’s surprise attack gets a solid half panel. It’s brief action but welcomed timing. This moves events into a more serious place.

Readers watch as a party crasher jumps into the frame via two page spread. Rom jumps into the fire and starts commanding the situation. Panels move quickly as the situation dissolves peacefully. Rom’s expressions via body language make notable moves to win over most. This comes into conflict when the group meets with others. The Skuxxoid pages hit their marks but fall in the shadow of Rom’s last moment. A final full image shakes events up with a touch of mystery added. Readers will be having many questions about this scene.

FINAL GRADE: 8.6

Rom makes his presence known early in a solid showcase issue. Kirkman welcomes the Space Knight into the EU with a great script. Hughes and Delpeche capture some mystery behind the noble actions with strong art. Get ready for another excellent addition to comics’ most unpredictable universe!
