STORY OVERVIEW:

As Darak, Proximus, Solila, and the others continue to take the fight to the Quintesson’s, the Judges have more tricks up their sleeves. They are far from ready to give up and furthermore they are willing to risk it all for the win. As the Aggorians and Zertonians claim minor victories the Quintesson’s have already decided on their final stand. Will the Quintesson’s rule the day after all, or will the freedom fighters be able to defeat them once and for all?

WRITING:

As the war gets into the second half of its run, the stakes are raised a bit. Robert Kirkman captures the struggle for both sides and makes it clear that this battle is not over yet. The battles in this issue are less between the opposing forces, and more between the internal struggle of each side. Kirkman shows the reader that sometimes the biggest enemy to defeat is oneself. This brings an interesting twist to what’s happening in the battle, well setting up for the final two issues of this event. Kirkman has set the table for the finish and has the reader guessing on what side will ultimately be victorious.

ARTWORK:

The artwork featured in this issue effectively communicates the intensity and excitement of the depicted conflict. Andrei Bressan demonstrates considerable skill in illustrating action sequences across varied environments, including terrestrial and extraterrestrial settings, immersing readers in the central narrative. His approach to character design is particularly noteworthy; each alien race, robot, creature, and Judge possesses unique qualities that contribute to a sense of grandeur within the universe.

Coloring serves to further elevate the visual presentation. Dee Cunniffe utilizes specific palettes to differentiate between worlds and enhance individuality in character designs. Delpeche’s use of color ensures that each page is visually distinctive. Additionally, Rus Wooton’s lettering is both clear and legible, supporting the story by adding depth and atmosphere.

Final Thoughts:

Void Rivals #28 takes the war past the halfway point and it’s still either sides fight to win. This issue slows down the action a bit, but it shows the internal struggle that both sides are dealing with going into the finish. This brings a certain amount of uncertainty of which side is favored which will make for an exciting finish. This has been a very good event, and I anticipate it should be an exciting finish as well.

FINAL GRADE: 8/10
