*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
WRITING:
Simone brings Gaunt and The Scavenged back home with chilling disregard for anyone else in their way. The opening shows the terrifying welcome she makes. Watching the innocent homeowners run in fear sets a strong pace early. Gaunt’s dialogue is equally as frightening. It conveys the delusional state her mind has been in for years. The writing also provides a quick intro for the group with bad intentions behind them. Once that issue is handled, focus moves back to Greymalkin itself with a mutant ready to handle some unfinished business.
Dazzler’s appearance is more grounded in anger than past incarnations. Knowing the pain and anguish staining the walls, her response to government agents is justified. Once Rogue and Monet arrive, the mood becomes less patient as they begin to sent a unified message. Simone really let Dazzler tear loose on those trying to oppose mutant liberties. This transitions well to a surprise return and Gaunt’s first target. The scenes turn bloody fast as there’s no remorse for what is unfolding. It runs parallel to the Greymalkin incident. There’s a disturbing message sent to walk off from this chapter with. One that Rogue and the X-Men need to find an answer for and fast.

ART & LETTERING:
Vecchio returns to art duties and crafts a haunting intro for Gaunt and the Scavenged. The full page look welcomes the new squad into the scene with evil intentions lurking. Gaunt’s devilish mannerisms hide much as they begin their planning. It provides a transition to Dazzler’s investigation at Greymalkin. The half panel look shows her rage building with each discovery. Her mannerisms tell a story of their own. The time for calm discussion has pasted. There needs to be answers and fast.
Readers watch as Rogue and Monet enter view via half panel. Another half shot shows the pair at work attacking the armored convoy in attendance. The mood is tense as the X-Men process what horrors have now taken over the hall. A shocking full page image unveils one of those terrors. It launches into fast action. This is much in the same vein as Gaunt’s fight. A bold half panel shocks everything as Gaunt’s target is taken out viciously. This moves events to a bold final page where all images scream at the readers of what lies ahead.
FINAL GRADE: 8.8
The Scavenged make a first impression by taking down their first target! Simone ramps up the hostile view of the X-Verse with a spectacular set-up. Vecchio and Wilson deliver on huge action moments in-between the brooding drama. There’s no easy way out for Rogue and her team in this latest arc!
