Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 4th issue of Ultimate Endgame from Marvel Comics!

Everything hinges on the battle between our heroes and The Maker! It’s a battle taking place inside the Maker’s City with ramifications that could spell doom for everyone! So with all of the chips on the table, just who is going to come out on top? Let’s jump into it!

The Story

Deniz Camp’s incredible run continues in this issue following the shocking events of issue #3! The stakes continue to raise and it feels like things are reaching the true make or break point for this version of the Ultimate universe. It’s a story filled with shocking moments and sequences that give it a big event feel that you’re used to with Marvel Comics.

The story picks up right where the last issue left off, and that is Peter Parker is dead to the shock of everyone and he is not coming back. I really enjoyed the way the issue was structured between the 3 perspectives and how they all intertwined with each other. Obviously we know of the ongoing battle in the Maker’s city with our heroes, but there are countless other battles going on otuside the city and two of them are the primary focus for this issue.

The first focus is with Captain America and the ongoing doubts he is having. He’s under a lot of pressure and has a lot to live up to, all the while he’s fighting for the literal fate of the universe at the same time. He also gets into an incredible battle with one of the Maker’s council member and it’s a battle that is going to leave you absolutely stunned. The way it plays out is so masterfully done that perhaps Deniz has had this in the plans for a while.

The other focus is with Black Panther and what’s going on in Latveria, and oh boy is this one shocking. The situation in Latveria is not going well to say the least, and it Black Panther feels it’s reaching a point where extreme measures have to be taken. Just what are those extreme measures? Well I won’t tell you, but all I will say is that once I read what T’Challa said he was going to do if it came to it I had to re-read the sentence three times to make sure I’d read it right because it is the most extreme solution to a problem that you can imagine.

As for the ending of the issue, it’s going to leave you with a sense of uncertainty as to just how this is all going to play out. So much has happened, both good and bad, and so much more is left unresolved that it’s going to make you wish the next issue was out now.

The Artwork

The entire creative team did a fantastic job with the art in this issue and it really does an incredible job elevating the artwork to match the incredible story. The story is hands down the best one Marvel has going right now and for as good as the story is the artwork has stepped up to match the story. There’s a grittiness to the artwork that isn’t super common with Marvel comics these days, and it works so brilliantly that I wish we’d see it more when the story warrants it.

Overall Grade: 10/10

Hands down this is THE issue you need to read first before anything else this week. This is the penultimate issue and issue 5 is setting up to be a must read issue. Deniz Camp’s storytelling is on a whole other level and is some of the best I’ve ever read, and the artwork is stunning in every single way.
