STORY OVERVIEW:
The Turtles drop into Japan, landing right on Godzilla. As they try and use the Foot Technique, they used on Ghidorah, they realize it is not working on Godzilla. At this point they retreat to save their own shells. After regrouping they try and figure out what went wrong, deciding on the distant attitude from Donatello being the reason they can’t achieve focus. Donnie has broken away from the group to visit Professor Emi Kinoshita. There Donatello discovers Emi’s father created Jet Jaguar and that the technology for him to grow is what Shredder was after, but now he has it and he is making a whole new threat. Meanwhile, April, Casey, and Mondo have gone to an island that has been calling April, and she discovers what has been calling her.
WRITING:
This issue does an awesome job of continuing the story well ramping up the threats. Tim Seeley reveals the intentions of Shredder and Krang which really raises the stakes for the Kaiju invasion. Seeley does a fantastic job of building the tension and ramping up the story. His well-timed reveals allow the story to progress and still keep a very well pace. How Seeley treats the Kaiju and their threat shows them a great deal of respect well, not losing focus on the Turtles. Introducing some new characters well also changing others allow for the story to grow and for the reader to want even more.
ARTWORK:
The artwork in this issue captures the essence of both franchises well carving out their own niche. Fero Pe does an excellent job with the character and Kaiju designs. The classic Kaiju along with the new ones really feel original well also tied to the source material. Pe also does an amazing job with the backgrounds and settings. As good as Pe’s art is the colors by Luis Antonio Delgado really make the art pop. The art team as a whole really works together in great synergy, which makes for some fantastic work.
