ThunderCats X Silverhawks: Thunderhawks #3 (Dynamite Entertainment)

If you grew up like I did in the mid 80s as an 8-year-old kid, chances are you watched ThunderCats and SilverHawks on TV.

You might have even had the action figures and made up your own stories where the two teams fought each other or joined forces to take on whatever other toys were lying around your room.

For a lot of us, seeing these two franchises together in an official story was always a dream. Well, the wait is finally over!

ThunderCats X SilverHawks: ThunderHawks #3 by Ed Brisson, Vincenzo Federici, Robby Bevard, & Jeff Eckleberry w/ cover art by David Cousens, (Dynamite Entertainment), is exactly the kind of crossover my 8-year-old self always wanted.

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

The stakes remain high in this third issue, but what really stood out to me were some of the quieter moments. We learn a few new things from someone within the ThunderCats camp, and there are some genuinely touching scenes that help ground these characters and make them feel more relatable. Those moments add a little extra depth to a story that could have easily relied only on nostalgia.

Ed Brisson has always been a writer whose work I've enjoyed. He has written both ThunderCats and SilverHawks in the past, and those books were fantastic. That same quality carries over into ThunderHawks. If you're a fan of either team, this is an easy recommendation and a must pick up if you're not already reading it.

LET’S TALK CONCRETE!

Of course, no comic is complete without great artwork, and Vincenzo Federici absolutely delivers. The interior art is awesome. The page layouts and panel designs are well done, making for a fast and enjoyable read. Even though there is not a ton of action packed plot progression in this issue, there is plenty to think about as the ThunderCats continue their journey to find a way back to Third Earth. The book does a great job of planting seeds for what could be coming next.

FINAL GRADE: 8.5

There is a lot here to enjoy, especially for longtime fans, and I'm hopeful that this series will continue to get even better as it moves forward.
