Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 14th issue of The Mortal Thor from Marvel Comics! It also happens to be the 800th issue of Thor!
The story thus far has been about Sigurd Jarlson, the man who looks like Thor and wields a hammer about as effectively as Thor does. So just what is in store for Sigurd in this 800th issue of Thor? Let’s jump into it!

The Story
This issue is a huge one in both size, scope and impact. Not a lot of series reach 800 issues, but Thor is another entry in the list that has. However as you may know if you’ve been keeping up with the Mortal Thor series, Thor is dead. Or is he? That remains the big question that continues to be just out of reach.
Al Ewing does a great job brining together all of the lingering questions that have been floating around for the entire run of The Mortal Thor story in a way that’s satisfying and very intriguing. It makes sense to bring it all together, or start to, with the 800th issue. It was intriguing to see all of the cards finally laid out on the table and the pieces to the puzzle finally start to come together. There is some resolution to some of the questions, but for readers who might not have kept up with The Mortal Thor might be a little lost.
Overall the main story is a good one with an intriguing ending if you’ve been keeping up with the story for the last year, but if you’re jumping in for the first time or perhaps jumping back in for the first time in a while it might leave a lot to be desired.
The two additional stories by Kieron Gillen & Declan Shalvey (Worthy), Chris Condon & Jesse Lonergan (Decide) feel better suited to the celebration of 800 issues of Thor. They do a good job to remind you just who the character is and what makes him so popular.
The Artwork
Pasqual Ferry & Matt Milla are in charge of the art for this issue and they do a great job with it throughout the issue. The art in the Thor series continues to be a standout feature that does not disappoint. It is some of the most unique art you’ll see on the comic stands from Marvel.
Overall Grade: 6.5/10
As an issue, it’s fine. But for being the 800th issue of Thor it feels like a misstep for the issue to have played out like it does. If you haven’t kept up you’ll be confused. and wonder why it got featured in such a milestone issue. If you have kept up, you’ll enjoy it. The artwork continues to be a standout feature of the series, which make the issue enjoyable.
