STORY OVERVIEW:

It’s 1889 in the Blue Mountains of Oregon, and the outlaw Bill Donovan is on the run after murdering the Sheriff of Pendleton. He takes cover in a cave, but the cave has a secret inhabitant, a Terminator. The T-800 wakes up from a stasis and takes out Donovan. Unfortunately, the T-800 is suffering from a power leakage and needs to get to a power source to recharge. This trip will take the Terminator through Pendleton and surrounding towns. He will need to conserve power if he has any chance of survival. Will the T-800 make it to the electric plant before it’s too late?

WRITING:

This issue takes the reader through on a trip through history. Declan Shalvey & Rory McConville do a great job with bringing the reader back to the frontier days of the Pacific Northwest. The time period really works well with the lore of Terminators going back in time. The action beats make you feel like you are in a movie and really entrench you in the struggle of the T-800. The twist ending is a little confusing, but overall, it doesn’t take too much away from the story on a whole.

ARTWORK:

The artwork featured in this issue is exceptional and effectively captures the essence of the Terminator franchise. Colin Craker does an awesome job of bringing the story to life with his art. Craker makes you feel like you are looking at something taking place in the late 1800’s. The art does a great job of also showing the urgency of the T-800 as he races against time to survive.

Final Thoughts:

The Terminator: Metal #3 is another good entry in this series. Taking a time period story and injecting a Terminator into the mix really works and is very entertaining. The anthology style of this series really lends itself to this franchise and fits it like a glove. If you are a Terminator fan or just like one and done stories, this is a series you should definitely check out.
