*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Gillen takes on the religious aspects of Eliza’s faith head-on in this chapter. The pain that she carries never leaves her side. Even as Jacky tries to give hope, it burns away under the false premise of what is happening. Lux’s visions are unbreakable. When she takes her frustrations out on an omega threat level, it prompts others to act. Their reactions vary in delivery. Readers watch as the powerful beings must make choices that even their powers can’t overcome.

This leads to more personal moments between some characters. Masumi & Isabella get time to address their relationship drama. Their dialogue is heartfelt while addressing the hellish elephant in the planet. Valentina has a deeper talk with Heavy concerning what is transpiring. This leads to a drastic confrontation. What’s even crazier is the ending to this chapter. It lives up to the complexity of choices in this world. There’s no denying the ramifications coming this are huge. A magnificent read.

Wijngaard presents Eliza’s torment with a tragic flair. The close-up of her crying at the Vatican hits in many ways. This only amplifies when she’s back with Jacky. The coloring of the panels reflect the dark overtones looming. It adds into the madness she is experiencing. Readers watch the terrifying changes taking place on her. It serves as a strong point to move into how to deal with this problem. The solution is one without remorse.

Masumi & Isabella’s time is filled with unsettled issues and feelings. It is a nice break from the powers drama. While brief, this offers the audience a small pause before heading into the much more intense final portion. Valentina’s actions do not go quietly. It hits panels with no remorse. Her talk with Heavy leads to a somber feeling as there is no turning back from what’s coming. It moves to a great close-up of Eliza talking with Valentina. Adding the tears into the panels’ coloring sells the moment for one character. It leads to an explosive series of panels. Readers had better brace for this moment. The fallout is summed up on the final page with a near full panel. It’s a strong landing spot for what’s coming next.

FINAL GRADE: 9.4

In dealing with Eliza’s current state of mind, there are few easy choices. Gillen paints a dark but impactful vision of events and religion with the writing. Wijngaard’s art never ceases to impress when dealing with the ever-changng landscape of events. This series maintains a high level of storytelling few come close to.
