STORY OVERVIEW:

We catch up with the Hulk in the Hulkscape and as he moves around this magical world, we get a sense that something is strange in this world. We then discover what is strange is that the Hulk is not alone, there are other people/beings in the Hulkscape. As Hulk interacts with Agmundr he learns that the Hulkscape has become a prison for the victims of Eldest. This includes many iterations of Hulk as well as the Mother of Horrors. Can the Hulk navigate this strange land and figure out a way to get out?

WRITING:

This issue takes the reader to one of the trippier places we have been in this wild story. Phillip Kennedy Johnson is taking big swings and is really starting to hit his stride in this story. Catching up with the Hulk after catching up with Bruce brings good symmetry to the overall story. Johnson really thrives in these weird worlds with mysterious motives. As the story moves along and the questions get answers, it draws the reader in deeper and wanting more. When you get to the end of the issue it leaves the reader with a bit of a tease for what’s to come next.

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this issue is strange and fantastic. Nic Klein brings this strange land to life and uses a bit of a Willy Wonka vibe. The backgrounds are made up of fantasy items with a horror twist. This creates a unique and completely original space for the Hulk to wander. Klein’s landscapes are only second to the character designs. Couple this with a great mix of dark and brighter colors and you have a fantastic piece of art.

Final Thoughts:

The Infernal Hulk #4 takes us to a very trippy and strange realm that not only tells us where the Hulk is but also makes the readers imagination run wild. The story may be strange, but it fits into this series perfectly. As crazy as the story is, the art is that much crazier and more amazing. This series has really heated up the last couple of issues and looks to not be slowing down or losing a step.

FINAL GRADE: 8.9/10
