SUPERMAN: FATHER OF TOMORROW #3 by Kenny Porter, Danny Earls ,Nick Filardi &Lucas Gattoni (DC Comics)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Porter places a different glance at Jor-El’s view of humanity. Seeing the perspective of him being a symptoms solution verses a problem solver is a fascinating concept. Coming to terms with this after dealing with an Intergang run-in cements his need to find an answer. Martha Kent’s conversation with him leads into more thought-provoking stances. It is overcomes with action as more enemies use his tech for notorious means. It results in tragedy and the public now casting new looks.

Speaking of new looks, Lex Luthor’s aggressive want of magical skills is a great turn of events. Watching him scour the Earth for mentors is a fun turn. His banter with Doctor Fate leads into more problems as the student outgrows the mentor. Another great turn closes the show with General Lane. Seeing what has been added into play helps raise the stakes higher. Readers have much to enjoy here.

read last issue’s review!

Earls and Filardi open with a busy sequence of Intergang attempting a train robbery. Panels move fast as Jor-El swoops into saving the day. The full shot of him dangling the criminals over the ledge opens up a discussion he’s not ready for. The reactions from Lois Lane and Martha Kent continue this mood. It results in Jor-El needing to reflect. Panels show little time for that as a fight comes to the doorstep. Readers watch as the brawl comes with tragic consequences. A near full page brings the house down around the hero.

On the other side of events, Luthor’s quest for magic takes him into the unknown. The full page intro of Doctor Fate steals attention while a fantastic two page spread shows the journey to there. This ushers in more mystery before switching gears. General Lane’s new plan comes with some curious looks as it challenges more of Jor-El’s good will. The final page welcomes some old friends into the fold via full page. Consider readers locked in after seeing that lineup!

FINAL GRADE: 8.8

A question of gifts and consequences consumes Jor-El with deadly results. Porter throws readers a solid debate as actions spiral out of control. Earls and Filardi takes the action into explosive territory. Brace for who shows up on the closing page!
