STORY OVERVIEW:

Kim Jugger’s plan of cutting Speed Racer’s brakes has now put Speed into peril. As he continues to try and stay on the course, his Guardian Angel Racer X returns to save his life. Working together Speed and Racer X are trying to not just win the race, but also hurt Dante Ferno where it hurts the most, in his pockets. Does the C.A.T have any more tricks up their sleeves, or will Speed Racer clinch a spot in the championship tournament with this all important win.

WRITING:

Another issue down, and another issue to add to the already robust Speed Racer series. David Pepose once again tells a masterful story and keeps the reader wanting more. The emotional connections that Pepose draws upon are some of the best in comics right now. Pepose proves that he is a masterful writer and draws in the reader with each page in this beautiful tale. The stakes are high and so isn’t the suspense as the Great Alpine Race concludes.

ARTWORK:

The art team proves their excellence again in this issue. Davide Tinto brings the world of Speed Racer to life, giving readers an engaging and vivid experience. The character designs stand out, and the racing scenes are particularly impressive. Through his artwork, Tinto conveys the story’s emotions remarkably well. Rex Lokus chooses a color palette that boosts the artwork’s visual impact and highlights important elements. Paired with Buddy Beaudoin's outstanding lettering, it's easy to see why this series is considered one of the best at the LCS.

Final Thoughts:

Speed Racer #5 is a ruckus action packed joy ride, with some of the best racing scenes in not just the series but the industry as a whole. Every issue in this series seems to out due the issue before it. This is a title that should be on your list to pick up this week at the LCS, and you should strongly think about adding this series to your Pull List as well.
