STORY OVERVIEW:
The brothers Wahng share a special bond and an even more special ability. You see the two brothers can telepathically communicate with one another. But instead of using this ability to make the world a better place. They use the ability to scam and con people for their own gain. Castor used to be an MMA fighter and has a ton of charisma. Paul is the smarter of the two and you could even say he’s the brains of the operation. Their scams have Castor playing in a high stakes’ poker league, where his brother watches on tv so he can communicate the opponent’s hand to him. Unfortunately for the brothers one of the other players is Daeshim Kang who is a gangster and will not be very happy if he finds out that he’s being scammed.
WRITING:
The first issue of this series does an incredible job of introducing the reader to the story. Derek Kirk Kim introduces the brothers and their unique ability to the reader in a way that you completely understand all you need to know. Kim gives the reader enough information that in the first issue alone you feel like you know the brothers. Even though the familiarity is in the forefront there is still some things that are wanted or needed that are missing. Since this is the first issue it doesn’t hurt the story too much but still gives a slight pause. However, Kim does a great job of setting the table and giving some humorous and entertaining scenes that most is forgiven.
ARTWORK:
The artwork in this first issue matches the fun nature of the story. Jacob Perez uses a cartoon art style in this book that makes the reader feel like they are watching an animated show. This style lends itself to the fun nature of the story well, taking nothing away from any of the more serious scenes. The colors are vibrant and match the fun nature of the story as well. Once again, the fun nature of the artwork does not take away from some of the more serious scenes in the issue.
