Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 2nd issue of Queen In Black: Defenders of Light And Dark #1 from Marvel Comics!

As if Earth wasn’t going through enough with the events of Armageddon, they’ve also got Hela AND Knull to contend with! So what happens when Plan A might not be enough? Let’s jump into it!

The Story

Following the shocking conclusion from the first issue Tom & Al waste no time hitting the ground running. The entire issue is packed to the brim with action that will keep you turning the pages right up to the very end. The story is a good one that really brings the action you’d expect from both Hela and Knull being on Earth causing havok.

The central focus of the story is of course the fate of Cloak after the shocking end to the first issue. I really like how the story surrounding Cloak & Dagger played alongside the ongoing battle so effectively. It also made for a nice change of pace from what we’ve been reading with the overall Queen In Black story. I also really loved the way it played out because oh my gosh I can’t wait to see how that ends up working out. I won’t spoil it, but trust me when I tell you it’s a really cool result in the end.

Of course there is also the end, and it does end on a bit of an interesting note. Perhaps things will come to a head? Perhaps they will finally come to blows themeselves? Only time will tell, but it’s sure to be very interesting to see play out to it’s conclusion.

The Artwork

Ze Carlos & Fernando Sifuentes are in charge of the artwork for this issue and they do a great job keeping the same look fans will be used to by this point. They do a great job with the action sequences and keeping you on the edge of your seat with what’s going to happen in the next panel. They did a really great job with the sequences with Cloak & Dagger and making those really stand out from the rest of the art in the issue.

Overall Grade: 8/10

A great issue that brings the action from start to finish. Tom Waltz & Al Ewing pen a very intriguing story that along with stupendous artwork make this an issue you’re not going to want to pass up on.
