Queen In Black #2 (Marvel Comics)

Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 2nd issue of Queen In Black from Marvel Comics!

An all out battle is headed for Earth, and it’s going to take all of the combined forces of Earth’s heroes to get ready for it! The Battle has begun! So let’s jump into it!

The Story

Al Ewing really takes you on an explosive journey in this issue. After the build up in the first issue, plus what we saw in Defenders of Light and Dark it all comes to a head in this issue. It’s an all out fight on multiple fronts that really makes the story feel like an event worthy of the number heroes we’re seeing in the issue.

I really enjoyed just how chaotic the issue felt with so many battles taking place at once. Despite the fact that Tony Stark has a plan, it feels like that plan isn’t going very well and the whole crew has been caught flat footed. It also feels like this are going to get infinitely worse before they get better. The amount of heavy hitters you have currently fighting together with the amount of damage they’re not doing is honestly a little shocking.

There’s also the ending which I wasn’t expecting. It can’t be good for our heroes and is sure to only complicate things further. It’ll be interesting to see how things continue to develop and play out in the next couple of issues.

The Artwork

Iban Coello, Paco Medina & Guru-eFX are in charge of the artwork for the issue and they do a phenomenal job with it. There is A LOT going on in the issue and each panel is impeccably drawn and colored. You can tell how much time and effort went into each panel. The last page in particular stands out as one of the best in the issue and a standout among the whole storyline so far.

Overall Grade: 8/10

An explosive entry into the series that continues to raise the stakes and impress. Al Ewing’s story, together with the fantastic artwork make this an issue you don’t want to miss.
