POWER RANGERS UNLIMITED #2 (boom! Studios)

Trini Kwan is leading a bold program to deal with threats. The Yellow Ranger is calling for help across time and space.

She is assembling a team to fight each individual threat that comes her way.

When something is orbiting KO-35, Trini calls for a pair of Rangers who are all too familiar with that planet!

POWER RANGERS UNLIMITED #2 by Joey Esposito, Kenny Porter, Federico Sorressa, Raúl Angulo & Ed Dukeshire (BOOM! Studios) puts the spotlight on Andros and Karone!

Let’s take a closer look at what’s happening here!

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Esposito and Porter know how to kickstart the action with this series. The tease of the threat on KO-35’s satellite carries a horror feel before moving to Trini’s latest moments. Her contemplation of work/life balance is a nice twist placed into the new Rangers business. It allows for her to focus on the new threat and piece together a team with a notable lead. Andros’ entrance into the story is met with some friction as the other Rangers meet and plan business. Being his home planet is involved, the Red Space Ranger is none too pleased to be taking orders on actions.

Readers watch as the dynamic changes quickly with Karone added into play. The dialogue moves into a few directions before returning to a centered place. Seeing the threat of a White Psycho Ranger will cause that. The writing instantly raises the stakes when the intentions are revealed. Andros’s confrontation after events transpire leads to a needed showdown. It spins into a fast resolution with a steady epilogue. There’s a great full circle moment to wrap events up with while teasing the readers for more. Another great issue from top to bottom.

MORE POWER RANGERS!

Sorressa & Angulo start off with a suspenseful opening page. It makes the antagonist jump out while alluding to more. Trini’s more personal panels shows the wear her new role is taking. Pages move fast to get Andros set for action with a great lead in. His two page spread introduction to his team makes some noise as it provides a great reunion. Knowing Karone is on the mission gives it more personal elements. All of this adds up to bring the personal drama out of defending the home planet.

The White Psycho Ranger gets a superb full page image. Angulo’s ripple coloring effect is perfect for this moment. It adds more uneasiness into the initial confrontation. This carries over to the half panel beginning strike. Pacing picks up as the action moves swiftly from page to page. The use of lights and shadows can’t be understated here. Readers see as it leads to a more personal encounter. Andros plays for keeps in a great run of strikes. This moves to a strong half page image of the clash. Once the finish commences, the mood winds down to reflection of what just happened. It’s an easy voyage to finish with a great parting panel to close with.

FINAL GRADE: 9

Andros And Karone take center stage as a ghost looks to strike more than fear into the Rangers. Esposito and Porter tap into new gears for a strong script. Sorressa & Angulo deliver an exciting action bout with clever art. There’s no way you want to miss what’s happening within these pages!
