PLANET SHE-HULK #2 by Stephanie Phillips, Aaron Kuder, Scott Hanna, Sonia Oback, & Joe Caramagna (MARVEL COMICS)
*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Phillips leans into the political aspect of Sakaar to open with. Seeing Korven claim the throne for himself is a bold move. The dialogue teases he has ulterior motives. Executing a member of the Thousand Eyes to make a statement comes at a high cost. She-Hulk’s frustration boils over into an impromptu training session. Her conversation with Juno is a blend of jovial and blunt honesty. The result leaves Jen with a very frank statement to follow. This provides a sold transition point to the major players on the planet.
Once the story evolves with other members of Sakaar, the story gets more serious in dealing with the power void. Korven tries flexing his authority on the people. This is met with immediate opposition from Quade. Readers see the side-plot forming with Elara. The writing builds up the tension to a combustible point. Once She-Hulk enters the fray, it should be the factor to end this conflict. Unfortunately, another guest has other plans. The final page welcomes them into the fight, making matters only worse. It’s safe to say expect fireworks next chapter.

Kuder opens up with a full shot of Korven screaming to all who will listen. As he addresses the room, his stature screams of anger. The execution of a Thousand Eyes member is brutal to send a message. The event moves to a near full shot of She-Hulk smashing a tree. Her sparring match with Juno leads to some safe action shots. The image where Juno is flipping around Jen is an eye catching one. It concludes this meeting with a haunting message. From here, the focus shifts to more of Sakaar’s more known citizens.
The exchange between Quade and Elara is innocent enough with the theme of forbidden love. It serves to be the calm before the storm. Korven comes into the picture in a great wide shot of the area. His rage never seems to calm down. This leads into a noteworthy exchange with Quade. The art constructs this meeting very well. She-Hulk enters the frame via near full page. It is a stoic appearance providing calm to the moment, albeit temporary. The final page welcomes in the true threat via full page. It sets events in motion for a wild confrontation next issue.
FINAL GRADE: 8.8
The fallout of a wedding murder ignites a struggle for power on Sakaar. Phillips’ writing pits Walters in a tough situation with no easy way out. Kuder and the art team construct solid imagery to move the story towards a devastating confrontation. You’ve never seen She-Hulk in a battle like this before! Don’t miss it!
