STORY OVERVIEW:

It’s a beautiful day on the planet Eternia, and in the city of Eternos everyone is going about life as usual. On a street in the city, Orko is performing street tricks for money, and it’s not going well. But as he leaves the city, all hell breaks loose as Skeletor and his minions takeover Eternia. Orko doesn’t know this has happened, and on his way home he rescues a falcon that is injured. Knowing that times are hard in his refugee camp, he tries to hide the falcon, and a squink that he used in his performance. However, there is more to the falcon than what he knows and this puts a target on the camp, putting everyone there in danger. Due to this Orko will have to become a hero to help and save Eternia from Skeletor.

WRITING:

This first issue does a great job of setting the tone for what’s to come in the series. Tim Sheridan brings his expertise and knowledge of Eternia to craft an intriguing story that ties into the new motion picture. Whether you’ve seen the movie or not, Sheridan makes this issue and story easy to follow. Focusing on one of the most popular characters in the entire Masters of the Universe franchise is sure to draw fans in. But Sheridan’s story will surely keep the reader engaged and waiting for what will happen next. The way Sheridan portrays our unlikely hero allows us to relate to him and the massive weight that has been thrust onto his shoulder.

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this first issue stands out and matches not just the story, but also the movie. Will Sliney brings the movies version of Eternia to life on the comic pages. He also captures the character designs perfectly and when you compare them to the actors in the movie, they look really close to the actual actors. Sliney does get to explore Eternia in further detail than the movie and he absolutely takes advantage of that. This really makes me excited to see what else he has in store as the story continues. Israel Silva’s color choices compliment the artwork and draw the readers eye to each and every panel.
