Miles Morales: Spider-Man #42 (Marvel Comics)

Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 42nd issue of Miles Morales: Spider-Man from Marvel Comics!

Miles Morales is facing a twofold threat in Rabble & Assessor! However he isn’t alone! As none other than Peter Parker has swung in to offer his assistance. So will the two of them be able to take them down? Let’s jump into it!

Credit: Marvel Comics // Miles Morales: Spider-Man #42 by Cody Ziglar (Writer), Marco Renna (Artist), Bryan Valenza (Color Artist), VC’s Cory Petit (Letterer), Federico Vincenti & Neeraj Menon (Cover) is a great conclusion to the battle against Rabble, and sets up nicely for what’s coming next.

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

The Story

Cody Ziglar really does a fantastic job with the story in this issue and tying up the saga with Rabble. It features a fantastic battle between our heroes and the villains. It also has some great lessons learned on Miles’ side of things that helps with his development as a hero.

The battle takes up the majority of the issue and it plays out spectacularly. If you’re a fan of Spider-Man, be it Miles or Peter, in a knockdown drag out fight than you’re going to love this issue. However I particularly enjoyed the life lessons Miles got out of it. He’s still young in the super hero saving world, and he still has a lot to learn.

Then there’s the matter of the final page of the issue, and the tie in back to Miles journey into the new Ultimate universe. For those who read the series, we all know what came back through. One would think it would have done so silently, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. It’s appearance is making waves that have not gone unnoticed. Clearly this is going to be the focus of the Miles Morales story going forward, but just what it all is going to mean is anyone’s guess.

The Artwork

Marco Renna & Bryan Valenza both did a fantastic job with the artwork on this issue. There was a LOT of action going on with the battle between good & evil, and I really like how chaotic is was but still felt incredibly crispy & clean. The color usage was also one that really enhanced the overall story and added a layer of depth to how good it was.

FINAL POINT: It’s a solid issue that has a great battle, and some intrigue for the future of the storyline. Together with tremendous artwork, this is an issue that delivers on all fronts.

Overall Grade: 8/10
