Matt Trakker & Miles Mayhem have made their first moves in the Energon Universe.

Trakker has dealt with the Government before. This time, he’s playing by his own rules. Meanwhile, Mayhem is up to exactly that. His group has stumbled upon something that could put the world in jeopardy!

Someone’s gotta fall in this head-on collision.

Let’s take a closer look at what happens here.

Watters doesn’t delay in getting more people involved in the major conflict. Mayhem’s crew attempts to move its’ major artifact to a better location but not without complications. The writing shows his plans fall to the wayside while Matt Trakker’s appears out branch out. Readers watch as he recruits two more members back into his fold. Bruce Sato and Gloria Baker are compete opposites in personalities. Both fit Trakker’s immediate need for stopping Mayhem.

This leads to some deep sea diving adventures. The dialogue is sharp as Trakker starts losing control of this mission. It allows for Mayhem to shake things up with the latest recruits. Readers clearly see the pair is in way over their heads in this moment. It allows for some fast paced action to spiral out. Leave it to one of the new members to throw a wrench into the resolution. Watters takes some gambles here but pays off in the long run. This leaves for a shocking epilogue to unfold. No rest for the weary as a strong cliffhanger caps off events with a bang.

Parr and Casolino open with Mayhem’s botched retrieval attempt for the artifact. While brief, the moment causes Trakker to take action. Parr brings out the stylish entrance for the new recruits to be picked up in. A solid two page spread shows the artifact in action. This leads into an energetic sequence of action underneath the water. Each panel warrents an intensity to it while the struggle to survive takes hold.

This leads into a frantic pace as the new recruits are outclassed in this combat. A solid full page shows a unique conclusion to this round. Readers watch as the fallout takes a few different turns. The pair’s calm conversation above water shows signs of friendship forming. It is a peace that doesn’t last very long. The final page shakes everything up with a drastic action taken. It leaves the audience with some curiosity before next round.

FINAL GRADE: 8.6

Welcome to M.A.S.K., hope you survive is the motto of this issue. Watters’ writing throws two new members into the deep end with a solid script. Parr and Casolino bring the action under water and never miss a beat. There’s never a misstep on the action coming from this series!
