*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Pires doesn’t delay on bringing the action quickly into the story. Henry’s showdown with Edge leads into a heavily-charged encounter. Readers get a story involving smoke and mirrors. The writing teases the disillusion with much promise behind. Henry’s response is fitting for the stand-off. Once the action commences again, it does not show any room for patience. The fight lives up to its’ billing with a surprise result. Saying “surprise” is a vast understatement to where Henry’s journey takes him now.

With a new location guiding the way (along with Franklin Jonas on co-writing duties), the audience watches as more secrets come to life. Pires tosses in a nice sub-plot before going back to the original focus. Once here, the answers start revealing themselves to the audience. This carries many moving parts to get from point to point. It’s a very tailored portion which is interrupted abruptly. A new assailant has entered the scene. Their presence sets up a catchy final act. From here, there are more questions raised while more linger in the background. It’s a steady landing with many paths to walk from.

READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW HERE!

Casalanguida swings for the fences right from the start. The full page image of Henry and Edge dueling sets a quickened pace. There are solid fight scenes before Edge tells a story. Once here, the art begins to spin his tale with many looks to describe the possible truths. One character’s time takes a horrific turn. Their eyes are heavily damaged in the attack at hand. This leads into a unique graphic blended in with the art. The painful reactions weigh heavy on Edge’s retelling. Readers don’t wait too much longer for the fight to resume.

The brutality of the fight doesn’t hold back. Panels are fast moving but not shy to go certain steps. This is especially true when a grave wound is cut. The half panel image leads into a dark change of events. Coloring leads into this grey aspect of the story. Another element crashes into view with a great two page image. This catapults events into the last act.

The mood is changed into a more uneasy state. Considering what just transpired, the art doesn’t shy away from the changes. Nilhas’ time in the book walks a few different emotional reactions. This helps to re-enforce Henry’s current stat quo. Readers watch as the next threat crashes the party in a violent way. There are some graphic images in the mix as Henry and company react. This leads to a great full page image gearing up next issue.

FINAL GRADE: 8.6

Sometimes the truth is mightier than the sword. Pires takes readers through a deadly game of smoke and mirrors involving Henry’s search. . Casalanguida & the art team construct fantastic action amidst the chaotic reveals. Lost Fantasy continues to keep readers locked in for the long haul.
