STORY OVERVIEW:
Erik is being tortured by the Khan’s who are using him as bait for the rest of his family. However, they should’ve been careful about what they wished for, as his children have arrived and they are slaughtering anyone that stands in their way. Frey makes it to the room where they are keeping her dad and frees him, to only have to face Genghis Khan himself. Even though this is a two on one fight, Erik and Frey still don’t have the advantage. As the battle wages on, there are only two ways this can go. Either Khan wins and Erik and the family die, or Erik and Frey win and what does that mean for the family going forward.
WRITING:
The final issue of this volume is amazing and is the antithesis of what a closing issue of an arc should be. Zack Kaplan not only sticks the landing but also sets the table perfectly for where we will be going in the next volume. The action in this issue is next level, with the main fight being one of the best fight scenes in any comic. The drama about who will come out on top keeps readers on the edge of their seats throughout the entirety of the fight. Additionally, when all is said and done, Kaplan hits us with a huge surprise for the setup of the next volume which promises to get everyone in the shops talking.
However, the biggest story and payoff in this final issue is what Frey will choose to do at the end of the day. This has played out much like The Godfather and just like in that classic piece of work, this story ends in a very satisfying and epic way. Kaplan has taken us on this journey with Frey and her feelings about her father and family, and how they clash with her morals. Now with everything that has happened with her family while they were mortal, how has it changed her morals. Kaplan doesn’t shy away from giving a definitive answer to what she will do but still keeps her motives vague for where we will be going next.
ARTWORK:
The art in this issue is vivid, detailed, and emotionally resonant. Fico Ossio and Elisabetta D’Amico deliver striking visuals, with each panel carefully composed to highlight the finer artistic details. The brutal, graphic imagery intensifies both the action and the drama. As epic as the fight scene is scripted, the execution of the artwork for said fight scene is even more epic. Ossio & D’Amico bring both drama and action to life and this adds so much to the overall story. At the same time, Thiago Rocha’s color pallet enhances the artwork and makes the artwork jump out at the reader. This art team has completely crushed it in this series and should be considered one of the best teams in comics currently.

Final Thoughts:
Kill All Immortals II #5 is a phenomenal ending to this second volume and arc of this series. Every part of the story hits, at the same time the artwork is next level. The end of this volume gives the reader a very satisfying closure for this chapter, while also setting up and giving excitement for what’s to come in this next volume. This is my Pick of the Week, and I think everyone should rush out and grab a copy at the shop this week. If for whatever reason you haven’t been reading this series. Make sure to keep your eyes out for when the Trade is coming out, so you can enjoy this story in all its glory.
