Let’s get a closer look at how the trial plays out.

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Axelrod and Maines put Galaxy right into the eye of the storm early in this issue. Her weakened state doesn’t hold her back from standing up to the trial at hand. The writing shows her unbreakable conviction to defend her and Dreamer’s stance. This grows even stronger as she pleads her defense. Readers see her emotional recalls counter Gardner’s tough jabs. It gives new insight to the hero until the moment becomes too strong. The event leads to a reinforcement of how her fighting spirit can’t be broken. This prompts a great proclamation in front of her opposition before heading back to Dreamer’s current ordeal.

Readers see Dreamer continuing to deal with the fallout of her choices. The writing locks in on her questioning while The Key speaks his devious words. It leads to an unlocking of a true desire of love. Seeing Dreamer swept in the moment crafts a clear picture of what she strives for. The tome of happiness with her new “love” is picture perfect until it crashes and burns. The Key’s deceptions have expanded greatly in this series. His devastating last move ushers in a sense of fear. It leaves events with a shocking close setting up for an excellent finale.

The art teams deliver on creating the tense scene unfolding at the tower ad beyond. Galaxy’s trek into the meeting is given a fitting full page. The League’s reactions sees shock in most members. There will never be a change in Gardner and Batman’s reactions. As rthe arguing takes shape, Galaxy’s painful reactions come into view. Still recovering form the Dreamscape, the panels show her striving to stand up. Gardner’s pressure forces an outburst given an explosive half panel. Galaxy’s talk with Kate Godwin aka Coagula is solid in bringing out the true hero inside. This leads to a powerful showcase in front of the league. Readers see this energy carry into Dreamer’s more unstable world.

Dreamer’s world is more deceptive by design. The Key’s manipulations grow stronger with a half page image . It leads to the illusion of love in Nia’s eyes. Seeing someone she desires appear in her arms breaks the concentration just enough. It moves panels into a more wholesome setting. Readers see how lost Nia becomes in these panels. It makes the turning point all that more sad. A frightening full page shows Nia in danger. This leads into the closing page. A chilling image appears to send events into the finale. Expect fireworks in this finishing round.

G. Willow Wilson, Maria Llovet & Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou conclude with a story of one of comics’ best couples. Poison Ivy & Harley Quinn are on a mission to get some strawberries. The writing brings out the best of their dynamics. Llovet’s art shines in bringing out the joy and love they share. Hijinks ensue on their shopping spree but would readers want it any other way? It is a fantastic compliment piece to the lead-in tale.

FINAL GRADE: 8.5
