STORY OVERVIEW:

Many years ago, humans went extinct, leaving the world to the robots that made their lives easier. These robots continued on their daily routines like they always had even without humans to serve. One of these robots is an animatronic Abraham Lincoln that is kind of an outcast to the other robots. One day Abe starts to question the meaning of life and starts to think there must be a bigger purpose for all of this. As he is thinking all these thoughts, he questions other robots about his ponderings. However, as he makes his rounds, he discovers that not everything in this world is what it seems to be. As more questions come up, Abe must get to the bottom of it all and find out what the truth truly is.

WRITING:

This first issue does a fantastic of bringing the reader into this world and revealing just enough to hook you in. Matthew & Mark Rosenberg shape this post-apocalyptic world in mystery and intrigue, well still keeping it based in a familiar reality. The choice of having the older machines continuing to do the things they did for humans even without them there is fun and opens endless possibilities for where the story can go. To add to that keeping a good deal of what is going on in this world a mystery builds a great deal of intrigue for what’s to come. Even though the Rosenberg’s have built this world of intrigue and mystery, they also keep the story fun and hit the reader with a lot of humorful moments. Mixing the fun situations with the more serious overall story is a great way to keep readers entertained and engaged.

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this first issue brings this world to life. Andy MacDonald pays a great deal of attention to detail to bring this world to life. The backgrounds and scenery are robust and stunning. Well, the design of the different kinds of robots truly steals the show. MacDonald makes every robot feel unique, as well as designing them to match what their jobs and skills are. The originality of these designs really draws the attention of the reader. Speaking of drawing your eye in, the color choices by Francesco Segala really define the artwork and make it jump off the page.
