The Story
If I didn’t know any better I’d have thought Michael Moreci sat in on the writing sessions for all three seasons of The Bad Batch on Disney+. He has an ability to capture the feeling of the story and the mannerisms of the characters unlike any other author I’ve read adapt someone else’s creations.
The story picks up where the previous one left off, with the Bad Batch in possession of the key everyone has been searching for. However they’re still missing a few key components, namely the location of where the scientist everyone is hunting for is. It’s a story filled with action and more double crosses than I think I’ve ever seen in a single issue! It all comes together in a way that again feels like an extension of the fantastic series.
I really liked the backstory we got on the rogue clones that added some intriguing depth to not only the characters, but clones overall. By and large we’ve seen the clones accept the orders they’ve been given with relatively little disagreement. Yes there are some exceptions to that sentence but the percentage is extremely low. So to see a group of clones presented in such a way that is unlike what we’re used to is very interesting.
The ending sets up for an extremely interesting final issue. Both groups are trying to one up the other and both think that they have the advantage on the other. I’m excited to see how this plays out and hopefully there will be more stories to tell.
The Artwork
Reese Hanningan, Elisabetta D’Amico & Michael Atiyeh all did a fantastic job with the art in the issue. Their ability at capturing the way the Bad Batch is simply spectacular and helps enhance the overall look & feel of the issue for fans of the show who might be new to comics. The action sequences were also so impeccably drawn that it set a high standard for Star Wars comics across the board.
Overall Grade: 8/10
Michael Moreci continues to capture the feeling of The Bad Batch animated series in a way that feels exactly like the show, and together with artwork that continues to capture the look and feel in a way that fans will be all too familiar with. This a series you cannot miss out on!
