STORY OVERVIEW:
Every year Charlie brutally kills a family to taunt Santa for wronging him when he was a child. This is driving Santa mad, as he tracks and tries to find out where Charlie is to stop him. Santa tries to hand over evidence to the authorities, but they dismiss it. He even tries to enlist the help of Spawn, who wants no part. Finally, Santa finds Charlie and has his final showdown. Will Santa prevail or will Charlie finally kill Christmas?
WRITING:
The finale of this 2 part miniseries was fantastic and really brings the horror to Christmas. Chris Killian & Andrew Sanders capture the anxiousness of Santa as he is being tormented by a psychopath. The writing duo also nails the horror and complete mental anguish that the killer is causing to the victims as well. One of the most terrifying elements in any book is when Charlie tries to get the little boy to kill one of his family members to save the rest. The only weak spot for the book is the ending, with that said it isn’t bad, but it felt a little underwhelming compared to the rest of the story.
ARTWORK:
The artwork in this book is a perfect reflection of its dark and twisted story. Thomas Nachlik delivers an outstanding performance, vividly capturing the violence and brutality at the heart of the narrative. His illustrations are not only graphic and gory, but they also elevate the story by presenting each murder in stunning, unflinching detail, leaving little to the imagination. Supporting Nachlik's work, Dan Kemp and Dave Kemp enhance the visuals with a striking color palette that punctuates the intensity of each scene. Together, the art team truly excels, bringing the story to life with remarkable impact and deserving of high praise for their contribution.
