*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
WRITING:
Kalan welcomes Harley to the event with a steady entry. The initial opening is very normal (much like the other side tie-ins). Once the event takes place, it draws some fear out of her fellow residents. This gets upended by some run-ins from D-list heroes to provide more laughs to the already light-hearted Quinn’s ways.
Once the story settles in on some type of drama, it starts moving in an engaging direction. Saving her neighbor Delores leads into a confrontation with NKVDemon. While giving an antagonist to spice up the issue, the conflict feels very telegraphed and at the very least, gives Delores time to process her past actions. The resolution ties up events while sending Harley on a much better, if not, predictable path.
MORE BAD SEEDS!
ART AND LETTERING:
Olivares & Louise open with a full shot of the attack in Harley’s neighborhood. It compels Quinn to take action after the full page shot. As she maneuvers through the scene, panels play up to her unpredictable style. They showcase Harley’s more sassy ways of navigating through the chaos before its’ time for her to play hero.
Readers watch as the Delores rescue switches gears quickly. The NKVDemon debut gets a near full page look. It accelerates pages with a quicker pace. This builds up more drama until time for the resolution. The art sneaks in a quick flashback to finish the fight with Gattoni’s lettering complimenting the scenes. It leads to a safe finish with one monster full page added in. The parting shot advances Harley to where she’s going to do more damage in the future. Right now, the art displays the chaos as another day in the life for the unstable Ms. Quinn.
FINAL GRADE: 7
Harley Quinn enters “Bad Seeds” with a routine entrance, playing to her strengths as a character. Kalan hits key points while using this as a stepping stone for a greater meeting. The art & lettering match the madcap style of Quinn’s life for a great fit. Expect more fireworks next time around.
