STORY OVERVIEW:

As the Church of Godzilla tries to capture the kids, the Wanderer tries to keep them safe. But the Kaiju threat keeps closing in on them and the fight gets more extreme. Just when it looks like things can’t get worse, enter the King of the Monters. As Godzilla enters the fray, Sherry gets really excited as this is the moment she has been waiting for. But soon her excitement turns to fear as she realizes Runt is in the path of Godzilla’s rage. The Wanderer is also on route to get to Runt. Can he get there in time and save the kids’ lives?

WRITING:

This issue closes out this opening arc with a ton of action and a lot going on. Ethan S. Parker & Griffin Sheridan really pack the issue full of as much action as possible. The excitement of everything going on keeps the readers’ mind continually moving from page to page. The downside of this issue is that it feels like all action and very little substance until the end of the issue. With so much action going on at times it feels like action for the sake of action. But they land the finish with some good suspense, before teasing what’s to come next.

ARTWORK:

The artwork featured in this issue is distinguished by its lively and unique style. Pablo Tunica revitalizes the Deadzone universe, infusing it with a captivating visual dynamism that leaves a lasting impression. The character designs are inventive and original, adding to the story’s unmistakable atmosphere. Visually, the action scenes are impressive and maintain the reader’s attention throughout the conflict.

Notably, Pablo Tunica’s color choices breathe life and depth into every panel, making each moment both visually stimulating and emotionally meaningful. Adding to this, Nathan Widick’s lettering skillfully expresses the characters’ feelings, further enhancing the narrative and drawing readers deeper into the experience. Their collaborative artistry raises the standard of visual storytelling, setting this book apart with its remarkable artistic delivery.

Final Thoughts:

Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone #6 is an action filled finale of this initial story arc. The excitement of the action and the great art really keep the reader entertained. However, the story falls a little flat for much of the issue. But then it sticks the landing, giving a very good ending with a great tease of what’s to come. The Kai-Sei Era has really kicked off with a bang and makes me hopeful for what’s to come.

FINAL GRADE: 8/10
