STORY OVERVIEW:

The battle ground is set, and Las Vegas will never be the same. A town that is used to its fair share of heavyweight fights is the home to the biggest of them all. Jacen, with the anger of not only what Godzilla has done to him, but also with the knowledge of the monster it has turned his mother into, is fighting with the rage of a million suns. As the hate flows through and out of him, it has Godzilla on the ropes. This sends Dr. Rumi Chiba into a panic as she knows the death of Godzilla will only lead to something far worse. This thought is cemented as truth as Lament lets it be known that’s been the plan all along. Now, the G-Fore USA Team must fight Lament and stop her from enabling her son Jacen of unleashing his full rage.

Just when it looks like our team is on the ropes, Rumi uses her mental powers to make Lament retreat. But the distraction to Rumi has gone on for too long, as Jacen is now using the training that Rumi gave him to vanquish Godzilla for good. The bad news is that by doing this it will create another Deadzone event and wipe out Las Vegas and beyond. Can Rumi get through to Jacen in time? Will Jacen causes even more death and destruction? Or will something completely new and unprecedented take this world into a new era?

WRITING:

Wow, does this issue deliver and then some! Tim Seeley does a masterful job of closing out this initial arc. The action is off the charts, and the consequences are all too real. But the real all-star if this issue is the different levels of drama and how they play out. Jacen’s rage, mixed with his self-doubt and lack of self-worth, really plays a huge role in his battle with Godzilla. Rumi dealing with the consequences of her choices and her trust in Jacen to do the right thing adds a lot to the suspense of the issue. But the biggest amount of drama comes from Lament and her motivations. Learning that revenge on Godzilla at all costs outweighs her maternal instincts really puts into perspective everything going on with Jacen.

However, the biggest takeaway for this finale is the ending. The brave, new, and bold decision of how this arc ends and what it will mean for the universe going forward is super exciting and delivers us into uncharted territory. It is something that has never been done before and is a huge swing for the creators, but it promises to be an interesting premise to move forward with.

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this issue is truly striking, drawing readers into its depicted world. Nikola Čižmešija demonstrates exceptional talent in both character and monster design, as well as in creating intricate backgrounds and environments that enrich the story’s atmosphere. The final page not only hints at future developments in the narrative but also highlights remarkable artwork that sets the stage for the next arc. Additionally, Francesco Segala & Gloria Martinelli masterfully apply color to complement the illustrations, making the visuals exceptionally vivid.

Final Thoughts:

Godzilla #6 delivers in every aspect, and it is exactly how you should end an arc, well setting up for what’s to come. The action, drama, and suspense keep the reader engaged throughout the book. Then you get to the end and see the tease of what’s to come, and it excites and energizes you for the next chapter in the Kai-Sei Era. This is my Pick of the Week and should be the first thing you grab at the LCS this week!
