GODZILLA #5 (IDW Publishing)
Jacen must team up with Godzilla to takedown Yucumama before it can destroy everything. This does not please Lament who wants Godzilla dead more than anything. But the reason that Lament wants the King of the Monsters dead is truly shocking.

STORY OVERVIEW:
The G-Force USA Team is witnessing the Yucumama feed off of Godzilla as it threatens to kill the king. However, Rumi realizes if Yucumama does kill Godzilla it will still need to feed more, and this will destroy the world. So, despite some objections, the G-Force team joins forces to help Godzilla win the fight. This leads to Jacen and Godzilla combining their Kai-Sei energies to destroy the kaiju. Everyone is thrilled except for Lament, who is beside herself and angry with the team. It is at this time that Lament drops a bombshell which shocks everyone, especially Jacen.
WRITING:
Godzilla #5 continues to build to the final issue of this first arc. Tim Seeley does an amazing job of building up the suspense of the battle between the Kaiju and the emotions the characters are going through. Seeley really drives the emotion home with Lament’s reveal on the final pages of the issue. With one more issue left in this initial arc, the stakes cannot get any higher at this point.
ARTWORK:
The artwork featured in this issue is impressive, immersing readers in the world it depicts. Nikola Čižmešija excels not only in designing both characters and monsters but also in crafting detailed backgrounds and environments that enhance the story’s setting. The last page of this issue not only teases what’s to come story wise but also showcases some phenomenal art that is preparing us for the last issue of the arc. Complementing this, Francesco Segala & Gloria Martinelli skillfully use color to harmonize with the illustrations, making the visuals stand out vibrantly.
Final Thoughts:
Godzilla #5 is a near perfect penultimate issue and really ups the ante for what’s to come next issue. The fight sequences were great and immersed the reader. But more important than that is the big reveal at the end of the issue which is completely surprising. This is a must-have issue and is also my Pick of the Week. So, get down to your LCS, grab a copy, and add this title to your Pull List so you won’t miss next month’s huge final issue.
FINAL GRADE: 9.8/10
