STORY OVERVIEW:
As Ash in his new monstrous form is destroying what we now know is Solenite we see actual Selenites falling from the sky. This is all part of Spark & Vex’s plan, bringing back the Eclipse Makers to bring the end to the fake Selenite and restore the real one. Loloi is trying to get to Ash to calm him down and talk some sense into him. However, he has become more like the Cinder, and his anger is not letting up. If something doesn’t intervene soon, all will be lost.
WRITING:
Not going to lie, this issue as far as the story goes, is slightly confusing. Ludo Lullabi is continuing to show us the unmatched anger that Ash is unleashing. Sparked more by hurt and love lost. However, the actual plans that were put in motion by Spark & Vex don’t make too much sense. Bataar moved people from Selenite to its sister planet Solenite in response to the Cinder and the destruction of the planet. He did lie about it, but why unleash the Cinder on the safe planet? For power? If that’s so stop talking in circles and say so. If that’s not the case, stop talking in circles and say so. Assuming that this is done to draw out some drama, the confusion it has caused is counterproductive. Either way, the only real substance in this issue is on the last couple pages, hopefully setting up something better.
ARTWORK:
The artwork is the saving grace of this issue. Ludo Lullabi makes the artwork look epic and makes the reader see the gravity of the destruction that is going on. The close-up shots of Ash and him standing above the world are awe inspiring and breathtaking. The details in the artwork are tremendous and bring perspective on the damage that has taken place and what’s to come. Adriano Lucas uses colors to show the mood and tone of the story in this issue. The use of reds to show anger and blues to show the despair of the situation really stand out.

Final Thoughts:
Ghost Pepper #12 is confusing and leaves the reader scratching their head on what they just read. This deep into the run and to feel this lost is absurd, but here we are. The artwork is the only thing that makes this issue worthwhile and from having a lower grade in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, I have enjoyed this series up to this point, and I’m pretty sure that it will come back. However, this issue wasn’t it, and I hope the teases for next issue deliver. The sky isn’t falling and there is no reason to yank this from your Pull List. But we will need to pay attention to the next few issues to make sure this doesn’t become a trend.
FINAL GRADE: 6/10
