The Story

Greg Weisman pens another fantastic issue that every Gargoyles fan is sure to love. I really enjoyed the direction he took the story with in this issue as it might seem like an issue where there isn’t much going on, but I don’t think that’s the case. So let’s get into it!

The primary story is still the search for Brooklyn & Kitana’s egg that has been eggnapped by Demona for some nefarious purpose. That does get some focus in the issue, but the main focus is on the new antagonist Queen Mab. Now that name might sound familiar and it did to me, and that’s because for those of you who’ve read William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet.

We finally get a peak into what she’s trying to do and just how extensive her powers are, and I have to say I was impressed with the display. Anytime you can throw a foe at the Gargoyles that isn’t simply brute strength or better science. It’s going to be interesting to see how this develops and how things play out for our heroes going forward.

I really liked the way Greg laid out the way the story progressed because I get the feeling some of the moments we see play out may come back to factor into the story later on. The story also perfectly fit the Halloween season with just how the story played out thematically. I also really enjoyed the twist at the end and can’t wait to see where Greg goes with that reveal next.

The Artwork

Gerardo Gambone, Alessandro Miracolo & Robby Bevard are in charge of the artwork for the issue and they truly deserve some type of award for their work. They do a great job keeping the look you’re used to from the animated series but also put a modern spin on it. It’s able to retain that familiar look that made it so popular with fans & viewers, and keep that feel that comes with watching/reading anything to do with Gargoyles. I also really liked the way they laid out the artwork in this issue because there was a lot going on, but they were able to still give it that feeling of mysticism that you’re used to from Gargoyles. Also I have to give them all credit for that final panel because holy cow that was awesome/terrifying!

Overall Grade: 9/10

Greg Weisman captures a familiar feel with this issue that long time fans of Gargoyles fans are sure to be a fan of. Together with artwork that is sure to be a hit with fans, this is an issue that is sure to be a hit with fans of the series!
