Gargoyles #2 (Dynamite Comics)
Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the FIRST issue of Gargoyles from Dynamite Comics!
Stone by day, warriors by night, the Gargoyles are BACK! When the animated series debuted on TV screens back in October of 1994, the series spawned a cult like following that goes on to this day. So now series creator Greg Weisman is back with a NEW ongoing series! Let’s jump into it!

The Story
Greg Weisman delivers another fantastic issue that every Gargoyles fan is sure to love. There are a couple of stories taking place in this issue and all of them are as important as the others! From start to finish the story really feels like a story you would have seen from the animated series.
I really enjoyed the stories being told in the issue because it harkens back to the animated series in such a familiar way that I thought I was reading an adaptation from the animated series. I also like how the story was able to stand on it’s own and not completely feel like the show.
I really liked the way Greg is setting up the whole story that’s being told over this series, because it’s taking it’s time to get into the main course but it isn’t feeling like a slow burn. There’s a lot of intrigue with who the main villain is, and no matter if you’re a new fan or a seasoned one it’s sure to be incredibly intriguing for you.
The ending might have been one of the best endings to an issue I’ve read in some time. There are so many layers to the issue and they keep adding on for an incredible story that Greg is telling. It isn’t required to go back and watch the series, but I would recommend you do because oh boy things are going to get crazy!
The Artwork
Gerardo Gambone & Robby Bevard are in charge of the artwork for the issue and they already deserve a standing ovation for their work. They do a great job keeping the look of the characters you know and love from the animated series, while also keeping the look from the comic series that fans have become used to. It’s this amazing blend of the two that is so incredible to see and is sure to be beloved by fans. The work they put into each panel is done with such care and love that it really feels like a love letter to the series and it’s fans. If you’re not completely sold on the story, read it for the artwork. I promise you that you will love it for both!
Overall Grade: 9/10
Greg Weisman continues his momentum from the first issue with an incredible follow up. An issue that fans are sure to love and enjoy thanks to a top notch story and incredible artwork. This is one you won’t want to miss!
