STORY OVERVIEW:

Patty and her crew are hot on the trail of Susan, as they try and save Lil & Grim. They track her down to a motel but just miss her. Amy meanwhile is trying to meet with Riley & his dad as they are locked up and she is their lawyer. She reassures them that she will get them out and to just not answer any questions. At the same time, Lydia, Savvy, and Glory have entered the world of the witches, and are asking them for help in finding Lil and bringing Susan to justice. They all discover at the same time that Susan has gone to the convention, so now everyone is racing there to try and stop whatever nefarious plan she has in mind.

WRITING:

This penultimate issue really brings the story to a fever pitch. Kelly Sue DeConnick does a fabulous job of raising the stakes going into the finale of this series. DeConnick ties up a few loose ends well also creating a good deal of suspense as we race to the finish. Showing how all the groups are coping and working together simultaneously really draws the reader into the race to save Lil. On top of this adding a new wrinkle just shy of the finale is an amazing way to create even more suspense.

ARTWORK:

The punk rock art style in this series never gets old and always hits the spot. David Lòpez does an awesome job bringing the vision of this story to reality. His illustrations are distinct, capturing the raw energy and attitude that define the series, yet they retain a sense of familiarity that draws the reader into every panel. The unique approach to character design and scene composition keeps each page visually engaging and true to the tone of the narrative.

The color palette, expertly handled by Cris Peter, works in perfect harmony with the artwork. The colors are carefully chosen to complement the punk aesthetic, amplifying the mood and reinforcing the impact of each scene. This synergy between art and color makes the panels pop, ensuring that the visuals command attention throughout the issue.

Completing the creative trifecta, Clayton Cowles’s lettering adds another layer to the punk rock atmosphere. The style of the lettering enhances the attitude and energy of the story, making it an integral part of the overall presentation. Each word balloon and caption box not only delivers the dialogue clearly but also contributes to the immersive feel of the comic.
